Payton Bush was tired of being underestimated. The Randall second baseman had spent his childhood playing career often being overlooked because of his size. He was never picked by the best teams and was never asked to play in extra tournaments. It fueled him.

The recent Amarillo High graduate had a breakout campaign to conclude his high school playing career, leading the Sandies both on the mound and at the plate en route to their 2021 journey to the state semifinals.
“The talent level of these guys was very high, but really just the camaraderie of this team this year is what really separated us from any team that I’ve had in the past,” said Johnson, whose Amarillo High squad reached the state tournament for the first time since 2016. “The guys really bonded well together and would enjoy coming to the park every day. Mix that in with really talented baseball players, it makes for a good combination.”
Scott Tankersley knows a thing or two about taking athletic programs to the next level. At Caprock, he won seven state championships with the girls wrestling team. As a Bushland baseball pitching coach, the team reached the state tournament in three consecutive years from 2010 to 2012. The first-year varsity Bushland softball coach led the Lady Falcons to the Region I-3A semifinals.
Overall, Adams finished with 12 triples, nine home runs, 48 RBI and 60 runs scored during Bushland’s campaign. However, it was her clutch moments and competitive attitude on the team is that made her so valuable, Tankersley said.Tankersley called her many things: fiercely competitive, a perfectionist, tenacious, loyal and a leader.
Tatem Pendergraft stepped onto the diamond this past spring ready to give maximum effort on each and every play. In her first varsity season on the Amarillo High softball team, the sophomore exceeded expectations at the plate, in the circle and defensively at shortstop on the way to earning Amarillo Globe-News Softball Newcomer of the Year honors.
What better way to enjoy the heat of the summer than with a stylized 50s beach shoot? The era of the 1950s was filled with elements of class, fun, color, and style. Stars such as Marlyn Monroe, Audrey Hepburn, Grace Kelly, and Elizabeth Taylor defined the era with pincurls, glamorous makeup and bold fashion. After being pitched the idea of a stylized shoot, I knew that a nostalgic, throwback to the iconic 50s would be a blast to put on.
My calendar has been day-to-day booked and leaves little wiggle room for serendipity to invite me into something fun and unexpected. However, I was fortunate enough to hop in my car to take some photos at the 91st Annual Texas Cowboy Reunion in my hometown this weekend.
