Capturing the Magic of Las Cruces and White Sands, NM
Earlier this summer, we embarked on an unforgettable photoshoot adventure that took us to the vibrant streets of Downtown Las Cruces and the breathtaking landscapes of White Sands National Park. Our models, Mazi and Brooklyn, brought their energy and grace to create stunning images for my portfolio and stock imagery collection. Here’s a recap of our incredible weekend, the people involved, and the magic we captured.
Why Las Cruces and White Sands?
Las Cruces and White Sands are truly exceptional locations for photoshoots. Downtown Las Cruces boasts a mix of historic charm and modern flair, with colorful murals, rustic architecture, and vibrant street life that provide a rich backdrop for urban-themed shoots. In contrast, White Sands National Park offers a surreal and otherworldly landscape with its vast dunes of white gypsum sand. The ethereal light during the golden hour at White Sands adds a magical quality to every photo, making it an iconic location for capturing stunning images.
The Journey Begins
Mazi had been eager to schedule a shoot for a while, but our busy summer schedules made it challenging. Finally, the stars aligned, and we managed to plan a weekend trip to New Mexico. Mazi, who has been modeling with me for several years and is set to begin her senior year at Pampa High School, was excited about the opportunity. An exceptional volleyball player, she has committed to playing at the University of the Pacific in Stockton, CA. Her experience and dedication shine through in every photo.
Brooklyn, a friend of Mazi’s, joined us for the trip. She’s also starting her senior year, attending Bushland High School. Like Mazi, Brooklyn is a talented volleyball player. This was her first major photoshoot, and she did an outstanding job, bringing her natural beauty and enthusiasm to each shot.
We embarked on a 6.5-hour road trip on a Friday, filled with anticipation and excitement. As soon as we arrived, we began photographing that night, capturing the night sky surrounding Las Cruces. The vibrant streets, colorful murals, and rustic charm provided the perfect backdrop for our urban-themed shots.
A Day in Las Cruces
The following day, we spent the afternoon exploring and photographing in Downtown Las Cruces. The lively streets and historic charm gave us plenty of opportunities to create unique and engaging images. Both Mazi and Brooklyn embraced the urban vibe, bringing their energy and grace to each shot.
Mazi had been wanting to shoot for a while, but my summer schedule had me tied up most weekends. Somehow, the stars aligned, and we were able to work in a weekend trip to shoot in New Mexico. This shoot was particularly special because it was Brooklyn’s first big shoot, and both girls did great.

The Magic of White Sands
That evening, we headed to White Sands National Park, aiming to capture the ethereal light during the golden hour. The vast dunes of white gypsum sand provided a surreal and otherworldly landscape that added a magical quality to every photo.
Angi, Mazi’s mom, accompanied us on this trip, providing invaluable support and capturing amazing behind-the-scenes photos and videos. Her presence added a layer of warmth and fun to the experience.

We were fortunate to partner with Dotsy’s Boutique, a local favorite in Amarillo, TX, for our wardrobe. The girls also wore stunning dresses from Lulu’s and Free People, adding elegance and style to our shoots. The effort and dedication of Mazi and Brooklyn were remarkable. Long hours and sweltering heat did not deter them; instead, they embraced the opportunity, creating art that surpassed our expectations. Their commitment and enthusiasm were truly inspiring.

Final Thoughts
Reflecting on this photoshoot, I realize it was more than just a collection of images; it was a journey of creativity, friendship, and the pursuit of art. The stunning backdrops of Downtown Las Cruces and White Sands National Park provided the perfect canvas for Mazi and Brooklyn to shine. I’m incredibly proud of the work we created together and grateful for the opportunity to capture these moments.
